Edgeborough School has proudly unveiled a new 148.8m² changing room block, which TG Escapes designed and built in collaboration with Weyside Architects.
This modern facility features separate male and female changing rooms, each accommodating up to 54 pupils aged 9-13. Additionally, it includes showers, toilets, a cleaners’ store, an external store, and a plant room. To ensure convenient access, a large canopy now connects the building to the existing sports hall, providing sheltered entry.
Modern Design and Accessibility
The exterior seamlessly blends hit-and-miss timber with composite cladding, complementing the school’s surroundings. Furthermore, to enhance accessibility, TG Escapes carried out extensive landscaping work, ensuring DDA-compliant access and smooth integration with nearby facilities. By prioritising functionality, the space effectively supports PE lessons and extracurricular sports, significantly improving pupils’ daily experiences.

Biophilic Design Features
TG Escapes thoughtfully incorporated natural elements to promote well being. Specifically, the design includes:
Timber cladding that enhances the building’s natural aesthetic
A large canopy that provides covered outdoor access
Three roof lights strategically placed to maximise natural daylight
Since privacy was a key consideration, large glazing and free-flow access were intentionally limited.
Sustainable Materials and Net-Zero Performance
Sustainability remained a central focus throughout the project. To that end, the team used:
Hit-and-miss timber and composite cladding for durability
Toughened glass roof lights to improve natural lighting
Resin-bound gravel, tarmac, and a stone border for enhanced landscaping
Moreover, to achieve optimal energy efficiency, the facility integrates:
A 22.4 kWp PV solar array for renewable energy
Air-source heat pumps to provide sustainable heating
NUOS water heaters for efficient water heating
Vent Axia mechanical ventilation with heat recovery to maintain air quality
Efficient Construction Timeline
The team completed this project in just 24 weeks. Along the way, they efficiently managed enabling works such as tree removal, demolition, and utility diversions. Ultimately, this development highlights Edgeborough’s dedication to sustainable, high-quality sports facilities that enhance pupils’ experiences while minimising environmental impact.
