Outdoor Woodland Learning (OWL)

Our Forest School inspired, Outdoor Woodland Learning, referred to as OWL, is acclaimed by parents, adored by children and celebrated by teachers. Donning wellies, waterproof and a ‘can do’ sense of adventure, each class (from Pre-School to Year 2) is offered a two hour woodland experience on a weekly basis led by our qualified Forest School Leader.

Within the woodland classroom, the learning potential is immense and the possibility for creativity limitless. Mother nature inspires all learners who will be seen collaborating in projects, developing imaginative themes in play and working with focus on a task. The woods allow for and encourage sensory exploration and therefore a whole-body learning experience. Projects such as constructing hedgehog houses, building mini-beast hotels or planting trees instil in the children a responsibility towards the plant and our school, a welcome message in a world increasingly disconnected from the great outdoors.

Using a range of tools with purpose and being shown how to carry out essential woodland tasks, the children are trusted to carry out ambitious projects. They delight in their success and accomplishments as a result. With the use of saws, peelers, flint lighters and cooking pots around the fire captivating their focus, OWL offers an experience that no classroom can match. Do come and visit our woods, it’s a haven of fun, achievement and enrichment.
